Workforce Achievers Value Education (WAVE) Program began in 2005. WAVE is an Out of School Program funded through Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act and the Northwest Regional Workforce Investment Board. It is hosted by Naugatuck Valley Community College. The program is designed to build student’s academic skills while developing each individual’s personal emotional quotient. WAVE students are involved both on campus and out in the community. The goal of the WAVE program is to enable our students to get along successfully in the real world.
Through academic, financial and personal support the WAVE students learn about a holistic approach to life. However, the main goal is for the students to further their education and earn their Associate’s Degree. To date, 14 students from the WAVE have been inducted into the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society and 8 students into the Alpha Beta Gamma Business Honor Society. More than half of the students who graduate with their Associate’s degree go onto 4 year colleges or universities. Many of the students are offered merit or academic scholarships along with financial aid. WAVE currently has graduates studying at Western CT State University, Eastern CT State University, Central CT State University, Southern CT State University, University of CT (Storrs), University of South Carolina, University of Bridgeport, Johns Hopkins University and The University of Rochester. Two of the WAVE graduates are now pursuing their Master’s Degrees.
